Life with a dish bitch....

I knew I had a dish obsession when I was 30. I had four sets of dishes, and I was single. Currently, I have a set of Spode earthenware, a set of Kaiser China, and a set of Noritake stoneware. It works for me. My children have full sets, purchased before they had driver's licenses.
I had to grin last night. We were watching Top Chef, and DH turned to me and said "God, they use the cheap crystal, don't they?"

I knew the answer, but asked him to explain. He said "They have that Crystal d'Arques stuff. I bought that stuff when I got my raise to Senior Airman." He was right. He correctly identified Crystal d'Arques Longchamp pattern, which is common in every military exchange in Europe. Six for 10.00. Every household has some.

He's learning, but I still fear for the Meissen Blue Orchid. If there's a garage sale after I'm gone, go.

I have those very same Crystal d' Arques wine glasses, for every day use, and rowdy company. I use Polish crystal for hubby and I. I began collecting dinnerware when I was 14 years old, including my first set of Farberware pots and pans, because I thought I would be married with children by the time I was 19. That was not to be, but I still have most of the dishes, except for the Pfaltzgraff Village, which was real crappy.

Have to laugh...i'm considered something of a "dish bitch" too...Moved TO Alaska 2 decades ago with 4 complete (12 setting) sets including Noritake wedding China with completer/server set (which I've come to be totally neutral about over time and would sell immediately if my grandmother wouldn't have a fit..."but it's your wedding china"...and a set of Homer Laughlin Fiesta Ware from the 1930s that we still use almost daily! I looove to look at and shop for dishes...now am hot on the trail to complete "Forget-me-not" (Franciscan Pottery-discontinued loooong ago-don'tcha just love ebay for this type of thing. have a fab day :)

ROFL..I just bought a china service for 8 today at Walmart! Before you wrinkle your nose at Walmart, trust my impeccable taste and know these everyday dishes if at Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc would be easily quadruple the price or more. I LOVE dishes! But seriously, I had no need for more everyday dishes until I calculated how many of my expensive Portmeirion pieces had been broken last year by careless house guests. (Two more bowls and a baking dish were broken over the holidays...grrrrr) So it's Walmart dishes for everyone! Woo-hoo. (I so planned to blog about this.)

Royal Dalton Old Country Roses, I have wanted it since 1972 and we got engaged. In 1998 I finally got service for 4 from my sister inlaw from Costco of all places, (and son bought me 1 more place setting the following birthday) so I have 5 place settings and the tea pot but I finally have it

I have 2 waterford wine glasses from DD trip to Ireland and then some lesser quality ones.

No silver to speak of when Mom died the Connecticut sister grabbed china and silver, the Boonton sister has the cut glass serving dishes I would die for!!

Lord, I feel definitely not classy! I won't describe my dishes, because it would be too embarrassing... (But if I were investing, I would be looking for blue flow wear.)
Maybe someone should do one of those blog thingys "What China Pattern are You?"
